Many Thomas family members hailed from here.

Copperhouse Wesleyan Chapel, Phillack, Cornwall, UK circa 1930
Discovered these on the net. The images of the chapel date from the 1930s and they look rather grand - judging by the architecture though I suspect that this chapel was rebuilt in the late 19th or early 20th century. It seems rather grandiose for the time of Samuel and Jane's wedding back in 1842, although I could be mistaken on this and I am not an expert! [11/5/2009]

St Augustine's Parish Church, Penarth, again mentioned in Aunt Mary's 'Brief History' - family graves Jane and Samuel Thomas and, of course, Amelia and John Patrick Ryan - plus more maybe - not sure. Also the venue for the 2000 Ryan reunion celebration service and probably a lot more - I'll check this with Mary - I suspect that she and Tom were married there. [L. Ryan 4/1/2010]

It [marriage certificate] also shows the marriage taking place at the Wesleyan Chapel in Copperhouse, Phillack, Hayle. The couple [Jane Michell/Samuel Thomas] kept up their family allegiance with the Methodist communion - Aunt Mary recalled that the Ryan side of the family were Roman Catholics but when Samuel and Jane took in the orphaned Ryan children, they all attended the Wesleyan Methodist Church in Albert Road, Penarth. Thomas family home to orphaned Ryan children. Samuel and Jane Thomas were the Ryan children's maternal grandparents. The couple took in the children after the death of their father, John Patrick in 1890 from a tetanus wound sustained at work in Penarth Docks. The childrens' mother, Amelia had died just over a year before.

Gareth Bowen sent me this certificate today [11/9/09] - it's quite amazing to see all the details and is the definitive document to show the spelling of Michell and for the first time to show Jane's father as Ralph - an engineer based at the Hayle Foundry.
